Top Dog welcomes back Dianne Posteraro!
Dianne was a trainer at Top Dog before she moved to California in 2001. She re-located back here to the east coast in 2010, and we are excited to have her back as one of our Pet Instructor. For Dianne, dog competition evolved when her son, Jeff, attended a 4-H Fair and saw children who were raising Seeing Eye puppies competing in obedience. Jeff decided he also wanted to raise Seeing Eye puppies. Dianne became a 4-H Leader and was one of two 4-H Leaders responsible for holding weekly training sessions for the kids and puppies. The training sessions consisted of basic obedience and problem solving issues the kids may have with puppies. Socialization and exposure to every day sights, sounds, obstacles and teaching house manners were the primary goals. Dianne also received basic obedience instructions from the Seeing Eye instructors to assist her with the training of the kids and puppies. The fifth Seeing Eye puppy, a Golden Retriever, was the dog that cemented Dianne’s desire to do dog training and competition.
Dianne's current competition dog and fourth golden retriever is Golly G’s Out of the Blue, RA, TDX "Freddie". While living in CA and working on Freddie’s obedience training, Dianne decided to do tracking (following a human scent) with Freddie. Dianne and Freddie competed in AKC’s tracking tests and passed his Tracking Dog (TD) and Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX) tests. Dianne along with her California tracking partner, Vicki Chaney, co-authored an article “Three TDX Titles in One Month” for The GRNews, an official publication of the Golden Retriever Club of America. Dianne and Freddie are now working on their Variable Surface tracking training which is the AKC’s highest level of tracking. In addition to tracking and obedience, Dianne and Freddie are training for field work. Field work is a series of AKC tests that involve retrieving upland game birds, which is what Golden Retrievers were bred to do.
Dianne is happy to be back on the East Coast and to be one of the trainers for the pet classes at Top Dog. She is also very excited to once again be a student at Top Dog for Freddie's competition obedience training.

Dianne’s dogs gone but never forgotten:
Di’s Sir Barney Bear Hanley, Am/Can CD: Dianne’s first obedience dog and first Golden Retriever was "Barney". Due to health problems, Barney was retired early in his competition career. Barney ended up with a new career as the “spokesdog” for the neighborhood children. The children loved Barney and he loved them. There was a special needs child in the neighborhood who loved to come over and pet Barney. If there wasn’t time for this child to stop in, as he passed the house, he would yell out “Hi Barney.” When Tenor joined the family, Barney was a good “big brother” to him.

Twin-Beau-D’s Winter Original, Am/Can CD: "Denver" started out as Dianne’s son, Jeff’s, breed and junior show dog. When Jeff left for college, Dianne drafted Denver as her next obedience dog. In 1992, Dianne took Denver to Betsy at Top Dog Obedience School for their competition obedience training. Dianne and Denver qualified and competed in Novice class at the 1995 Cycle Eastern Regional in York, PA. They also qualified for the 1996 Cycle Eastern Regional in Raleigh, NC but due to Denver’s health problems, were unable to compete.
U-CD Trumpet’s Tidewater Tackle, CD "Tenor" earned two legs of his A.S.C.A. CD, both with placements and one HIT Other than An Aussie before Dianne and Tenor moved to Southern California. Tenor’s CD was earned with placements and the third leg and title of CD was earned with a 198 and first place. Tenor developed health problems and was retired.
